Why We Chose the Italian Sila Shepherd for Our Farm

To keep our sheep and poultry safe we looked at and investigated as many different breeds we could find. Our list of demands were many but mostly we needed the breed to be able to protect while still being as friendly to strangers and visitors as our sheep were. We wanted it to be intelligent and easy to train, loving, faithful and non dominant to it’s owners. We finally found everything we were looking for and more in the Italian Sila Shepherd. Since it was nowhere to be found in the USA we travelled to its native Clabria in Italy and picked up our first two dogs. And we have not stopped at two. We became dog breeders, hoping topromote and aid in the preservation of this lovely and fantastic dog. We breed with intent to keep the Sila a Sila, chosing our matings carefully and having one, sometimes two litters a year. We try to time it so our puppies grow up with our lambs in the barn.
